The goal of the project: breeding of rainbow trout in hatcheries.
Location: areas of waters of Louhsky district of the Republic of Karelia
Project description:
Areas for placement of hatcheries for breeding rainbow trout have been chosen in accordance with the following indicators:
1. Main hydrological characteristics of waters (square of lakes, average depth, maximum depth, catchment basin, specific catchment, indicator of conditional water retention);
2. The depth in area of hatcheries’ placing should be not less than 8-10 meters;
3. Distance from a coastal line should be not less than 100 meters;
4. Stream velocity for fresh water farms is 0.02 – 0.2 meters per second;
5. Wave height in the area of breeding should not exceed 1.5 m.;
6. Bottom configuration should not bear deep hollows (as they collect production waste) and should provide for dissemination of food not consumed by fish and metabolic products across larger area possible.
Project readiness stage:
12 lakes of Louhsky district of Karelia (Tikshezero, Keretozero, Louhskoe lake, Engozero, Tavayarvi, Tiroyarvi, Topozero, Pyaozero, Sokolozero, Ruvozero, Tumchaozero and Sushozero) were examined on hydrological, hydrochemical, hydrobiological regimes and ichthyofauna within the Working out of recommendations for rational placement of fish breeding farms for commercial breeding of rainbow trout in water of Karelia (Louhsky district) research project. Resources of hydrobionts were assessed; ichtyomass and fish capacity of lakes were determined; amount of commercial fish breeding was calculated; recommendations on environment protection in the district were worked out. Areas for placement of fishing grounds were preliminarily determined.
The schemes are submitted upon request in the Ministry for economic development of the Republic of Karelia.
