Fisheries industry

The structure of the fishery complex of the Republic of Karelia includes more than 200 economic entities engaged in industrial fishing, commercial aquaculture and processing of aquatic biological resources.

More than 90% of the export of products of the agro-industrial complex of the Republic of Karelia is provided by fishing enterprises engaged in commercial fishing in the Barents Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The main object of aquaculture in the region is trout , while whitefish, sturgeon and mussels are grown in smaller volumes . About a third of fish farms have their processing facilities for aquaculture facilities. Fish products are mainly supplied to the domestic market.
